Fabulation

Fabulation, or the Re-Education of Undine, is a bold, satirical, and surreal comedy by Pulitzer Prize–winning playwright Lynn Nottage.

The play follows Undine Barnes Calles, a wealthy, self-made Black woman living a glamorous life in Manhattan. When everything she believes defines her success—money, status, marriage, and social power—is suddenly stripped away, Undine is forced to navigate an unfamiliar world on the margins of society.

As she moves through a series of absurd, often humorous encounters, Undine confronts questions of class, privilege, resilience, and identity. Blending sharp wit with theatrical exaggeration and emotional depth, Fabulation explores what it truly means to rebuild oneself when the illusion of success disappears.

Fast-paced and intentionally non-realistic, Fabulation invites audiences to laugh, reflect, and engage in conversation long after the curtain falls.
